Checking Your Nexus/OneDrive Folder Mappings

Quick reminder that you need to perform the migration steps on *each* machines that you've previously logged into. If this isn't done, you will not have the correct Nexus Windows folder mappings and it may be the case you experience a very long login time with a black screen.

To quickly check if you are set up correctly, login to a Nexus station, and ensure you are logged into OneDrive - check that the cloud icon in the taskbar is blue, not grey (if it's grey, click it to login to OneDrive). Then, open File Explorer and in the left panel under "Quick Access" or "This PC", right-click "Desktop", "Documents", or "Pictures" and select Properties.

If you are configured correctly, you'll see a reference to "OneDrive - University of Waterloo" beside Location:

properties screen showing location with a reference to Onedrive and not fileu

But, if you experience a very long login time with a black screen (be patient before continuing as your desktop will eventuially appear), or see a reference to "\\fileu\users$\YOURUSERID" or something else, you'll need to perform the following steps.

  1. Double-click: Psych Shortcuts (on the desktop) / Programs / OneDriveMigration / UserShellFoldersReset.exe (click "Run" when the dialog pops up)

  2. Double-click: Psych Shortcuts (on the desktop) / Programs / OneDriveMigration / KnownFolderMoveOneDriveU.exe (it'll finish quickly and nothing will appear)

  3. A reboot is also then required so sign-out, then press Ctrl-Alt-Del and instead of logging in, click the power icon in the bottom-right and select "Restart". If you are working remotely, send an email to PsychIT@uwaterloo.ca and we can reboot the machine and send a message when it's done.

If everything is configured correctly, you should see references to "OneDrive - University of Waterloo" in the Location field of the Properties for each of the following in File Explorer:

  1. Quick Access / Desktop
  2. Quick Access / Documents
  3. Quick Access / Pictures
  4. This PC / Desktop
  5. This PC / Documents
  6. This PC / Pictures
If you login to multiple Nexus stations, you'll want to check the Location mappings on each machine.

Also, if MS Teams doesn't start, you can reset your Teams settings by deleting the contents of: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams
