Troubleshooting the Data Projector Setup

Check the more detailed documentation taped to the closet door in PAS 3026.

PAS 3026

Look for the green sticky notes on the monitor, remote and switch box if you are having problems in PAS 3026.
If you are having problems with the desktop computer in PAS 3026, try this:
  1. Make sure the computer is on - look for a green light on the front beside the floppy drive.
  2. Turn the projector on using the projector remote control. If you turn the projector off, you won't be able to turn it on again for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Press RGB 2 on the projector remote control.
  4. Check the switch-box at the bottom of the closet to ensure the button setting is at "1" (out) when using the desktop machine.
If you are having problems with your own laptop in PAS 3026, try this:
  1. Turn the projector on using the projector remote control first and turn your laptop on second. If you turn the projector off, you won't be able to turn it on again for 3-4 minutes.
  2. Press RGB 2 on the projector remote control.
  3. Check the switch-box at the bottom of the closet to ensure the button setting is at "2" (in) when using the laptop.
  4. Your display resolution can be no more than "1024 by 768". To check on WinXP, right-click anywhere on the desktop background and select Properties/Settings and ensure you are using a screen resolution of 1024 by 768 or less. If you need to change the screen resolution, you will probably need to reboot your laptop.
  5. Most laptops normally do not send video to an external display (in order to save power). On many laptops, to switch between the LCD display and the projector (or both), hold the "FN" key and press "F5". Again, this may vary from laptop to laptop so check your laptop's documentation.
If you are using your laptop in PAS 3026, please be sure to restore the default settings so that the desktop computer and projector work as expected for the next person who is using PAS 3026.

Portable Laptop and Projector

There shouldn't be too many problems with this setup.
  1. Make sure the projector is on when you turn on the laptop.
  2. Hold the "FN" key and press "F5" until both the laptop display and the projector show the screen image.
